College Dorm Essentials Packing List!

So, it's already August, and that means it's time to get ready to go back to school! As I have completed my first year in college, I thought it would be nice to do a post on things I found useful in my first year in the dorms! I know it's super exciting to move into the dorms your first year. One thing I found useful was the lists online of things I needed to pack. I hope this list helps with your packing!

Technology

  • Laptop: Duh. Not only do you need your laptop for classes but also Facebook stalking. right?
  • Earphones: I love listening to the latest KPOP releases where ever I am. Especially when walking to classes across the huge campus, Earphones come in handy.
  • Headphones: I know. I already wrote earphones above, why do I need headphones too? Well, I started using headphones this year when I was in the dorms trying to tune out my roommates. And well... Headphones are definitely better at tuning out the outside noise. Plus, because they aren't very compact, I use my headphones only when I'm in the dorm.
  • Chargers: Don't EVER forget your laptop and phone chargers!! In fact, I liked to carry them around with me so that I can whip out my laptop or phone wherever I am for however long I want :)
  • Power strip: This is definitely something you NEED. The dorms often don't have a lot of electrical outlets. And with the many different chargers and chords you have, you'll definitely need a power strip.
  • Printer: Now, you can always use the library printer but I think most schools charge like 20 cents per page. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but when you're printing 20 page papers every week, the 20 cents per page starts to build up. Just invest in a printer with your roommates. You can split the price!
  • Tablet: You don't NEED to have a tablet, but I liked carrying my Nokia Tablet my neighbors gave me because it was more compact than a laptop. Honestly, it's hard to carry around a heavy laptop along with the charger!

Dorm Room

  • Desk Lamp: For those late night cram sessions! Also, dorm rooms aren't really brightly lit..
  • Mini-fridge & Microwave: You don't need to bring all these items yourself. Ask your roommates before you guys move in!
  • Snacks: Because dorm food often....sucks. Stock up on microwavable foods that you can have as a late night snack!
  • Water Bottle: Keep hydrated!
  • Fan: In case your dorm room does not have air conditioning.. aka my room.
  • Hand sanitizer: Because you never know when you touch something gross.
  • Laundry Hanger: So, next year I'm going to have a balcony, so we purchased a laundry hanger! That way you can save those extra 75 Cents for they dryer! Trust me, laundry money starts to add up!
  • Laundry basket: Including Fabric softener and detergent!
  • Bed Linens: You don't want to be sleeping on just a mattress do you?
  • Hangers Dorm rooms DO NOT provide hangers!
  • Clothes & Shoes: Self explanatory? BUT don't pack your WHOLE wardrobe. Trust me. If you don't wear it at home, you won't wear it at the dorms either.
  • School Supplies Because college is school.. no matter how fun it looks, you still need those pens and pencils!
  • Cups for holding pens: So that you can display your cute pens!
  • Backpack
  • Air Freshener: Sometimes.. the room can smell nasty.
  • Tissues/ Paper Towels: In case of a spill or just a cold?
  • Disinfectant wipes: Trust me. You want to wipe down your desk at least once a week. That way, the germs and dust will keep off!
  • Duffel Bag: It's nice to have a small bag around so that you can pack to go home or stay overnight at a friends!
  • ID holder/ Wallet: Never lose your ID! It's the key to everything!!
  • Slippers: Just something easy to slip on and off to go to the bathroom or something.

Bathroom Essentials

  • Shower Caddy. Oh my goodness. Please invest in a nice shower caddy. My cheap daiso one broke during the first week of school and I had the horror of carrying all my shower items to the bathroom every day.
  • Shower slippers. I had unisex bathrooms and showers. yes you read right. UNISEX. You don't want to step on anything in those showers barefoot. YUCK!
  • Bathrobe: Once again. You're going to walk to and from the showers and well.. you don't want to be seen naked.
  • Towels: preferably the big ones! You can use those for a couple of days!
  • Toiletries: The usual shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash
  • Hairbrush: For those bad hair days!
  • Hair Dryer I guess you don't need one if you don't blow dry your hair, but I think it's nice to have.

Makeup Essentials

Now I know, when it comes to makeup, you want to take your entire collection. HOWEVER! The dorm rooms are TINY. You won't have space to display your entire collection! Also, you'll always be super busy! You won't have time to put a full face of makeup on the run to that 8AM class. Here are just a couple things you need. Trust me on this one!
  • BB Cream/ CC Cream: This will be your makeup base. I know you want to pack all your foundations and whatnot but BB Creams and CC Creams are the easiest to apply!
  • Eyeliner: Although I've started wearing makeup with eyeliner, I learned that it takes too long to perfect in the mornings when I woke up 20 minutes after my alarm. But it's still nice to have a black eyeliner with you for those days you want to dress up :)
  • Mascara: Now this is a product I almost never leave without. It's easy and fast to apply and makes a big difference!
  • Eyeshadow: You don't need the funky colors you don't even know why you bought. Just stick with one neutral palette with browns and blacks! I recommend the Naked 1 as the perfect everyday product
  • Lip Tint: Super easy to use. Also, has long lasting power. What more do you need?

That concludes the college essentials list!
The number one thing you need though is to remember to HAVE FUN! College is so different from high school and even if it wasn't the college of your choice, it no longer matters. Life is what you make out of it so go join those funky clubs and activities. Enjoy it!
